S3ABANK V1.2c ------------- READ ME file ------------ This file is for Users of V1.0 who have upgraded to V1.2. New Users should read README.NEW, and V1.1 users should read README.v11 VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!! ------------------- 1. V1.2 fixes a bug I found just after V1.1 hit the streets. If you used the 'Move' Accounts option in the main screen, the associated Standing Orders were not changed. They actually referred to the Account in the original position, rather than following the orginal Account to its new position. I've fixed the bug, but the new coding means that Standing Orders saved under V1.0 or V1.1 may now refer to the wrong accounts. Therefore, after installing V1.2, please check all your Standing Orders and Update if necessary. 2. Follow a request from Shareware library holders, I've removed the coding which stops the program on 31 Dec 94. To encourage people to register I have, therefore, simply limited the number of entries that cam be used in each category. If you have entered a lot of data into your program using V1.0 or V1.1, do NOT use V1.2 without a registration code or you run the risk of losing some of the data. Quick Instructions ------------------ To save you reading the full instructions again, here are the changes from V1.0 to V1.2: V1.0 to V1.1 ------------ a. I've changed the whole concept of Currencies. The program now provides full support for all currencies. It caters for what I believe is the most difficult case, that of someone living in Country A, running some accounts in Country B, and occasionally visiting Country C. It does this by using 3 different currency settings: a. The Base Currency is the main currency for the program, and will normally be your country of origin. b. The Group Currency is the country where the accounts are held. c. The Secondary Currency is the country that you are temporarily visiting. To reduce any possible rounding errors caused by currency switching, the Shares, Budget and Petrol files are held on disc in the Base Currency, and the Account files are held in the Group Currency. Although you would normally set these currencies at the start, and not change them, the program will allow you to change them and recalculate the values. (I think I've configured it so that resetting the Base Currency on an existing set of data files will still work, if not, my sincere apologies, but it really did need sorting out. Please make sure you back everything up first) b. Export/Import options for QIF,CSV,ASCII. Access from Main screen. Quicken (QIF) is obvious, the Comma Separated Variable (CSV) should go into any spreadsheet and the ASCII will go into a word processor. c. Added Account types for interoperability with Quicken. Your present Accounts will default to Bank. Feel free to reset them. All it changes is the headings on the Transaction screen. d. Option to have 'Future Transactions' instead of 'Standing Orders'. Specially for Mark Jelic (and the rest of the Australians; accessed through the CONFIG menu on the first screen.) e. Allow kilometers as well as miles. (and litres/100km for Australians) Accessed through the Petrol screen. f. Add ability to redefine deferred/reconciliation symbols. For Mark again, and accessed through CONFIG on main screen. g. Automatic Y-Scaling on Share History Display. Makes Y-Scale 1.1 times maximum swing. h. A 'look-ahead' mode to check status at a later date when Standing Orders and deferred transactions are included. in main screen. Once carried out, you can only look at the Accounts or Transactions screens. Exit or Escape will restore the original values. i. Fixed a bug in updating Standing Orders. Sorry about that, but it was the only major one. j. Added an 'Account Info' and 'Group Info' option. Obvious k. Allowed secondary currency option for whole Group. and a separate secondary currency option for the Budget screen. Increases the flexibility, and allows you to configure in any number of ways. l. Cosmetic changes to Menus. Tried to make them more logical. Look at them all to note the changes. m. Added an option to change accounts from within the Transaction screen. You can also configure the key to do this as well, rather than just return you to the main screen, n. Improved and rewritten Help screens. V1.1 to V1.2 ------------ a. Program now automatically senses a change of date, so will update Standing Orders even if you haven't shut the program down. b. During development of the Petrol module I soon found the need to remove the last line when I was simulating an input. I therefore left it in as an option. or now removes the last line, and is used to remove a car. c. After a request, it will now recognise "SHARES" as well as "Shares". d. A number of people highlighted the limit of 999999 was no good for the Spanish, Italians or the Turks. On the other hand, I liked the idea of a limit to prevent erroneous inputs. I've therefore given you the option of setting your own limit. (In the Currency Config option in the main screen - ) e. Using these sizes of numbers causes a lot of overwriting on the screen, so I have put in a small font option. () f. Following a suggestion, I have included the option of having 1,234.56 or 1.234.56 instead of 1234.56. (In the Currency Config option in the main screen - ) g. I also noticed it would be useful to 'trim' the Share History rather than just delete it. I have therefore included an option to reset Start date for Share History file. h. You now have an option to Overwrite and Archive file rather than just appending transactions. i. Added total window and status column to Budget screen. j. Added option to update Share History one share at a time, and delete the last line if a mistake was made. All comments (and registrations) still gratefully received. Alan Richey
